The prolific french composer who has had four Oscar nominations in the last five years is just coming off his busiest year since gaining international notoriety in 2003 with Girl With A Pearl Earring. Since then he has been one of, if not the most in-demand composers in the business with a remarkable output that
made me tired just reading all the titles. Those Oscar-nominated scores , The King’s Speech, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Queen are just a tiny sample of the nearly 60 scores he has written in the last 10 years , a decade of major achievement for the now-50 year old Desplat who can probably safely say life really does start at 40. He has actually been actively composing for films for a quarter century but has only become an international household name in movie music circles since ’03. When I sat down with him at a small dinner last week he was in town just for 36 hours and between back-to-back Q&As with his The Ides of March director George Clooney. North American box office than previously thought thanks to the Veterans Day holiday weekend when school is out in 60% of the country. The good news is break from slumping attendance with a $130+M total moviegoing weekend, up +15% from last year. Relativity’s Immortals is the #1 movie. It did $1.4M in midnight gross from approximately 900 locations then expanded locations and grosses during the day and evening. These days, a $35M weekend bow is something special. But not when you realize that Immortals is a 300-clone but won’t make 50% of the $70.8M opening amount that the original 2D movie did even with the higher 3D ticket prices. “300 was absolutely a big success, but we are in a different economy, marketplace, and time of year,” a Relativity exec tells me tonight. “Young males have been hard to get over the past year. Advertising Up 12.5% For China’s Biggest Broadcaster
Foreign and Chinese advertisers will pay about $2.25 billion next year for time on China’s biggest television network CCTV. That’s up roughly 12.5% over 2011. That may seem high compared to the rest of the world which is generally chalking up low 
single-digit growth, but China has been accustomed to annual hikes ranging from 15% to 18.5% during the past five years. Similar to the US networks’ upfront market, CCTV’s auction of TV time for the coming year is seen as a benchmark for not only China’s ad industry but the country’s economy as a whole. One of the largest bidders was white-spirits company Kweichow Moutai Co., which pledged $78.4 million. Bank of China committed $12 million for a 10-second slot after the evening news in January and February during peak viewership for special Chinese New Year programming. Internet companies including 360buy.com and Alibaba were the fastest growing advertisers representing a 7.7% increase over 2011. In general Western companies were less aggressive this year, but Volkswagen AG was one of the largest foreign advertisers according to Beijing ad agency Charm Communications. Procter & Gamble Co. pledged $25.2 million. Separately, CCTV plans to open a new HQ in Washington, D.C., in January as part of an agressive foreign expansion.

Hollywood: Jamie Chung Hit Up The Roosevelt Hotel

Jamie Chung scored this year appearing in The Hangover Part II as Stu’s fiance and is lined up to star alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, and Dania Ramirez in Premium Rush, opening next year.
It was recently announced that Jamie also landed a role in the upcoming thriller 7500. Also confirmed as part of the cast are Leslie Bibb, Amy Smart, Christian Serratos, and Scout Taylor-Compton. It’s directed by The Grudge’s Takashi Shimizu.
