The son of actress Cybill Shepherd was arrested at Philadelphia International Airport on misdemeanor theft charges, authorities said.
Philadelphia’s KYW-AM reports that Cyrus Zackariah “Zack” Shepherd-Oppenheim, 22, of Sebastopol, California, was taken into custody Tuesday when United Airlines Flight 186 from San Francisco landed shortly after midnight.
Lt. Frank Vanore, a spokesman for the Philadelphia police, said another passenger told authorities that he saw Shepherd-Oppenheim going through bags, allegedly taking a digital camera, a makeup case and money.
According to a statement made by Vanore:
“One was under his seat and one was under a seat in very close proximity to him. At some point, he was able to rummage through their bags and take items.”
William Brennan, representing the young man, said he is not a habitual criminal:
“He’s never been in trouble a day in his life. He’s a good kid. I think he’s a 4.0 straight-A student. And we’re anxious to see what the evidence says, if it says anything at all.”
