If anyone were to have told you back on May 13 when Universal’s raunchy female comedy, Bridesmaids opened that we would seriously be discussing its Best Picture Oscar nomination prospects a week before Christmas, the status of their mental health would been called into question. But even though it remains a
long shot Oscar pundits are online actively debating its Best Pic potential. Universal is ratcheting up its campaign with an eye on the prize it never dared dream about, and kudos for the Judd Apatow produced film directed by Paul Feig keep piling up as this awards season gets curiouser and curiouser.

Paramount Near Deal To Provide Safe Harbor To Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah'
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount is moving closer to signing on for Noah, the big-ticket re-telling of the Noah’s Ark story that will be the next film from Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. Deadline told you early this month that CAA was shopping the picture. Bidding came down to 20th Century Fox and Paramount, both of which were vying to partner with New Regency, which has been involved all the way through the process. Aronofsky wrote a script that is being rewritten by Gladiator scribe John Logan. Noah might only have gotten got a few pages in the Bible, but Aronofsky has turned it into a sprawling fantasy epic that will cost north of $100 million. Aronofsky dropped out of The Wolverine after his long-gestating Black Swan finally came together and grossed $315 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. What a time to mount a dream project, when you’ve just generated one of the most profitable movies in recent memory. This will take a few days to crystallize, but I’m convinced that Paramount will emerge as the partner on the picture. New Regency is closely aligned with Fox, but I believe the company will still play a role in the funding of the picture. More to come on this one.

EXCLUSIVE: What I reported on Monday is now official. The memo just went out at ICM that motion picture talent agent Scott Schachter has exited. He’s starting Monday at UTA, where his two best friends are already agents — Chris Hart, who left ICM for UTA a year ago, and Mike Jelline, who left ICM for UTA five weeks ago. Schachter’s and Jelline’s defections follow ICM’s recent decision to merge its TV and motion picture talent departments and “restructure leadership”. Before that, the TV talent department was overseen by Jelline and the motion picture talent group was co-headed by Schachter who declined to sign another contract when three colleagues were promoted above him.
