Queen Elizabeth Welcomes First Great-Grandchild
There’s a new royal in the fold: Peter Phillips, cousin to Princes William and Harry, and his wife Autumn welcomed a daughter Wednesday, making Queen Elizabeth a great-grandmother for the first time.
The baby girl, whose name has not yet been released, is 12th in line for the throne. The baby is the first grandchild of Peter Phillips’s mother, Princess Anne, and the first great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
“Mrs. Peter Phillips was yesterday safely delivered of a baby girl at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital,” the Queen’s press secretary said in a statement Thursday. “The weight of the baby was 8 lbs., 8 oz. Mr. Peter Phillips was present at the birth.”
Both families “are delighted with the news,” the statement continued, adding, that “the baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.”
The birth will be followed up with more happy news for the royals in a few months when Prince William marries Kate Middleton in April.

Mackenzie Phillips Fires Back at Step-Mom Michelle
Actress Mackenzie Phillips has hit back at her step-mother, Michelle Phillips, accusing her of “protecting the abuser” after Michelle spoke out, saying she doesn’t believe Mackenzie had a 10 year sexual relationship with father John Phillips, a member of the iconic 60′s group, the Mamas and the Papas.
Michelle Phillips spoke out about her stepdaughter’s claims just hours after Mackenzie appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday to talk about her new book, High on Arrival, which details the sexual relationship she had with her father.
Michelle later spoke to the Hollywood Reporter, where she was quoted as saying:
“John was a bad parent, and a drug addict…(but) if she thinks it’s true, why isn’t she with a good psychiatrist on a couch…? I have every reason to believe it’s untrue. Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She’s had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years.”
On Friday, Mackenzie made a second appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show to defend herself and her book:
“When Michelle found out I was writing this book, she vowed to do everything she could to discredit me. Either she’s protecting the Mamas & The Papas brand for her own reasons or she’s having a textbook reaction, she’s embarrassed, sweep it under the carpet, protect the abuser, deny the person who’s still living. I don’t have a history of mental illness, I have a history of addiction. That is not mental illness. I feel bad that Michelle would do this…it seems so unkind and ungenerous to lash out in this way.”
Mackenzie’s half-sister, Bijou Phillips, has also criticized the actress for going public with rape and incest claims against their father, while half-sister Chynna says she believes Mackenzie and also said she’s known about the incestuous relationship for about 12 years.
Mackenzie says she spent a month before the book launch trying to prepare her family for the shocker:
“I’ve been trying…to try and bring this family together so we could deal with this…as a group that faces this together…head on.”

Roman Polanski Arrested in Switzerland
Oscar-winning film director Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland for a 1977 underage sex case in the United States.
Festival organizers told CNN that Polanski was in Zurich on Saturday to attend the city’s international film festival and to accept an achievement award when he was arrested on an international warrant and taken into custody. Polanski is being detained and faces possible extradition to the United States.
Polanski, who directed such cinematic greats as Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby and The Pianist, was first arrested in 1977 and charged with having sex with a 13-year-old girl at actor Jack Nicholson’s house. At the time, Polanski pleaded guilty and spent 42 days in prison undergoing psychiatric tests, but then fled in 1978 before being sentenced.
Attempts to settle the case over the years have been hamstrung by Polanski’s refusal to return to the United States to attend hearings. Earlier this year, a Los Angeles judge rejected a request to have the charges thrown out.
Samantha Geimer, now 45 and the girl with whom Mr. Polanski had drugged and had sex with when she was 13, has since publicly forgiven him.
I think it’s interesting to note that since John Phillips, Michelle Phillips and Mackenzie Phillips have all been in the news recently, the connection between John and Michelle to Polanski shouldn’t be overlooked. While it has nothing to do with Polanski’s recent arrest, I think it proves just how seedy things can get with some of these people.
In August, 1969, when Polanski’s pregnant wife, actress Sharon Tate, and friends Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger and Voyteck Frykowski, as well as Steven Parent, were brutally murdered by members of the Manson Family (most notably Susan Atkins, who died of brain cancer earlier this week), Polanski had first suspected and then accused John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas of the murders, citing that Phillips was seeking revenge for Polanski’s affair with band member Michelle Phillips, the step-mother of actress Mackenzie Phillips.
The story goes that Polanski retrieved a knife from the kitchen and held it to Phillips’ throat, hoping to get a confession.

Mackenzie Phillips’ step-mother, Michelle Phillips, says she doesn’t believe her step-daughter’s claims that she had a long-term incestuous relationship with her father, John Phillips.
Mackenzie, who has battled drug addiction for years, wrote in her new memoir, High on Arrival, that she and her father John, who was a member of the iconic pop 60′s group, The Mamas and the Papas, had sex on many occasions, from the time she was 19 until she was 29.
Mackenzie revealed on The Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this week, that the improper relationship ended when she had an abortion because she didn’t know if the child she was carrying belonged to her father.
The actress said her father paid for the abortion, and she refused to let him touch her again.
Mackenzie’s step-mother, Michelle Phillips, told The Hollywood Reporter that she doesn’t believe the allegations.
“She told me, then she called me back and said, ‘You know I’m joking,’ I said it wasn’t funny. Mackenzie said, ‘I guess we have different senses of humor.’ “
Michelle also criticized Winfrey for inviting Mackenzie on her chat show to discuss her book and told the Hollywood Reporter:
“I think it’s unconscionable that Oprah would let her do her show. I have every reason to believe it’s untrue. Oprah should be more judicious about who she has on her show. Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She’s had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years. She was arrested for heroin and coke just recently. She did ‘Celebrity Rehab’ and now she writes a book. The whole thing is timed. Mackenzie is jealous of her siblings, who have accomplished a lot and did not become drug addicts.”

Mackenzie Phillips Says She Had a Sexual Relationship with Her Father, John Phillips
Actress Mackenzie Phillips says she had a sexual relationship with her father, singer John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas, beginning when she was 19.
The 49-year-old former star of TV’s One Day at a Time (1975-1983) and the film, American Graffiti (1973), has long battled an addiction to drugs. Her memoir, High on Arrival, goes on sale today.
From her book:
“On the eve of my wedding (to musician Jeff Sessler,) my father showed up, determined to stop it. I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed. My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father. Had this happened before? I didn’t know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it. For a moment, I was in my body, in that horrible truth, and then I slid back into a blackout.”
The actress said the sexual relationship with her father became consensual:
“I was a fragment of a person, and my secret isolated me. One night, Dad said, ”We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.’ He was completely delusional. ‘No,’ I thought, ‘we’re going to hell for this.’”
In a sit down with Oprah Winfrey, which airs today, September 23, on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Phillips speaks about her drug use, her relationship with her father, and an alleged sexual encounter with The Rolling Stones’frontman, Mick Jagger.
John Phillips died in 2001 at the age of 65.
