Seth MacFarlane Double Grammy Nominee, Faces Barbra Streisand And Tony Bennett

Nellie AndreevaIn between juggling 5 series: Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and the upcoming Flintstones and Cosmos reboots, his first feature and emceeing duties at the Comedy Central roasts, Seth MacFarlane is fostering a budding music career. And tonight, the uber TV producer earned 2 Grammy nominations. One was for a song from Family Guy, Christmastime Is Killing Us which he co-wrote, in the Best Song Written For Visual Media category. It was the only song from a TV show to make the cut. The other nod was an even bigger surprise. MacFarlane’s debut album as a singer, Music Is Better Than Words, was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album alongside heavyweights Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett and Harry Connick Jr. and international sensation Susan Boyle. I think it is safe to say that this is the first time MacFarlane’s name has been mentioned in the same sentence as Ms. Streisand. (Below is a snippet from one of MacFarlane’s sold-out live performances of Music Is Better Than Words, which was turned into an EPIX special.) MacFarlane was not the only creator of primtime comedy series to land a Grammy nomination tonight. 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey earned one in the Best Spoken Word Album category for narrating the audio version of her bestselling book Bossypants, while Louie‘s Louis C.K. is nominated for his comedy album Hilarious. It’s nice to see that the music industry continues to exploit their favorite hip hop star of the moment. Why not right? Rhi-Rhi never disappoints in her ability to successfully brainwash little girls across the globe that it’s perfectly alright to love kinky sex, heavy amounts of alcohol & freaky S&M fashion.

These were snapped earlier today as Rihanna was spotted shooting a new music video in County Down, Northern Ireland. So, is that actually a bandana bikini top & bottom?

Katy Perry Was Hot For VMAs

Katy Perry almost went demure on me at MTV’s VMAs last Sunday. Has becoming a married lady led to Katy toning shit down? I hope not, if she wants to continue her music career. Russell Brand should know better than to try to keep that shit on lockdown (especially since he’s been seen acting a [...]

Boyz II Men Singer on Future of the Recording Industry

Nathan Morris, member of the classic R&B group Boyz II Men, recently told the Huffington Post:

“In the next 10 to 15 years, all music is going to be free…One, it’s too hard to police it…Two, now that the public has been set up with free music, having to want to pay for it is not going to happen. Whenever you can set up a platform where you can get music for free, now that there is a platform. You’re always gonna fight against [paying].”

Boyz II Men who are now celebrating their 20-year anniversary will release a new record on October 25 and a new Boyz II Men app for iPhone and Android.

Despite the new face of the music industry, Morris says that Napster and the technology which enabled file sharing of music on the Internet are not to blame for the collapse of the record industry. He says it is the labels themselves for coming to the Internet late.

“…A lot of people hold a grudge against companies like Napster for what they did, and against file sharing — how a song is a file, and so you can [share files] and it is not illegal. We don’t hold a grudge against Napster because many of those companies presented those technologies and had really early meetings with record companies and tried to make them a part of what they were doing, and they all said no… A lot of the stubborn record labels were so used to the tape and the master, and they didn’t want to fall in line with what those digital companies had to offer…Music publishing is going to be used as a promotional tool…Any new music is going to be used as marketing tools. Live performances and endorsement deals and merchandising are where the money is going to come from for new artists..I think we’re moving into an app-driven world…Five days a week most people aren’t able to get on their computer…”

Google Will Pay License Fees For Indie Music Clips On YouTube

Google has agreed to pay royalties to songwriters repped by the National Music Publishers Assocation when their songs appear in videos on YouTube. The deal, which covers roughly 3,000 mainly indie songwriters, resolves a copyright lawsuit brought by the organization in 2007 and sets up the two sides to share ad revenues generated by videos on YouTube. ‘

Trent Reznor urges fans not to buy repackaged version of Pretty Hate Machine

Ever since I can remember, Trent Reznor has been very anti-corporate music, and he celebrated in grand style when Nine Inch Nails finally split from Interscope records in 2007. In the aftermath, Reznor became legendary for giving away his own music (and continued the trend last year by providing a free download of the EP [...]
