Jessica Alba worked with Lindsay Lohan on Machete and in a recent interview had a lot of nice things to say about the troubled actress, going as far to say that Lindsay is a “brilliant actress.” Machete had a $20 million budget and to date has earned just over $25 million. Even though Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo launch Machete today amidst an onslaught of press that tries to make the film a lightning rod for debate on immigration, that wasn’t their goal. What they really wanted was to bring back the spirit of exploitation films which seemed to seize on a political issue, only to use it as an excuse to blow shit up and drop in as much nudity and over-the-top violence as they could get away with. Mission accomplished. 
“This was always about making a what would feel like a good old ’70s exploitation film,” Rodriguez told me. “What they did back in the day was, run out, make an over the top movie that exploited a story in the news so that it felt like it was ripped from the headlines of today, and move faster than studios could. That’s what we did. It was 16 years ago when I met Danny and said I needed to make this movie called Machete, because he looked like this Clint Eastwood type who would not back down from a fight. Immigration is still relevant, nobody has done anything about it, but it’s a smokescreen. The real Machete story underneath was always about an action hero you underestimate, who comes from a violent background, this incorruptible former Federale hiding out as a day laborer.”

Snapped earlier today at a “Machete” photo call in Venice.
For those of you bastards who don’t know, the 67th Annual Venice International Film Festival is currently going down. Natalie Portman, J. Alba & others are in the magical city promoting their latest efforts.
The only reason the festival isn’t getting much love in the press is because the Toronto Film Festival is going down right now, as well. More stars hit that up simply due to the city’s proximity to Hollywood. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d much rather cruise down the Grand Canal and chomp down on touristy-flavored Italian food, albeit somewhat shitty, but who cares since you’re in Venice, right?
Anyway, as you guys know, “Machete” hits theaters this Friday and I’m pretty sure J. Alba & crew will cruise around to at least a couple more European cities for promotional work before coming back home.

Jessica Alba’s last movies included Valentine’s Day and The Killer Inside Me so doing Machete was a nice change for her as she states. Machete opens September 3rd.

Cash Warren and Honor Marie were spotted this morning as they left a cafe in Beverly Hills after grabbing some breakfast together. The father and daughter duo are on their own for the next few days as Jessica Alba is hard at work. Jessica had to head to Miami to do some promotional press for her upcoming movie “Machete”.
Up and at em tweeples. Off to Miami for Machete press… Flying this early hurts.
It seems like a slew of celebrity babies have gone from that “baby” stage to full-on “kid” stage recently. Before we know it they’ll be teenagers!
