R.I.P. Dolores Hope
Dolores Hope, the widow of Bob Hope, died of natural causes at her Los Angeles home today. She was 102. Born in Harlem in New York on May 27, 1909, Dolores DeFina was a singer at Manhattan’s Vogue Club when she met Bob Hope in 1933. The couple married the next year and later adopted four children. She often accompanied her husband on his USO shows. At age 84 she sang “White Christmas” to Operation Desert Storm troops from the back of a truck in the Saudi desert. Although she put her singing career on hold after her marriage to Hope she worked for numerous charities. From 1969 to 1976 she served as president of the Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert, Calif. Funeral services will be private.

Leslie Hope To Star In ABC's 'The River'
24 alumna Leslie Hope has landed the female lead in ABC’s drama pilot The River, a thriller/horror drama from Paranormal Activity mastermind Oren Peli, which is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Described as being in the mold of Paranormal Activity, The River centers on Tess (Hope), a world traveler and top-notch producer who, six months after her TV explorer husband Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) goes missing in the Amazon, receives a signal from his beacon. Convinced that Emmet is alive, Tess forces her reluctant son Lincoln (Joe Anderson) to abandon his medical studies and lead a rescue expedition. Hope, repped by Domain and manager Perry Zimel, has been recurring on The Mentalist.

Film Independent Spirit Awards Set Feb. 26
Film Independent’s 26th Spirit Awards ceremony has been set for Saturday, February 26, 2011. The submission process begins Monday, August 9th. The early deadline is Monday, September 13 and the drop dead deadline is Tuesday, October 5. Submission information is available at SpiritAwards.com. The location is yet to be determined. The move to Saturday gives hope that organizers have come to their senses after last year. Let’s hope they bring the event back to the beach at Santa Monica, and hold it in the afternoon. It has always been one of the most enjoyable stops on Oscar weekend. Until last year, when it was held Friday evening, in a tent in downtown LA. Everything that could go wrong did, including problems with the live TV feed. Just as important, Hollywood players were caught between driving all the way downtown or making the must-attend Oscar parties held by WME’s Ari Emanuel and CAA’s Bryan Lourd.

Last-Minute Fox Scheduling Buzz
We’ll have Fox’s complete schedule tomorrow morning (make sure to check us out at 8:30AM ET/5:30AM PT when I will be posting it) but for the curious minds out there, here are some tidbits I heard today. It looks like the new Mitch Hurwitz/Will Arnett comedy Running Wilde will launch in the fall, probably paired with another new comedy Greg Garcia’s Keep Hope Alive, while the network’s third freshman comedy Traffic Light may be held for midseason, along with Shawn Ryan’s Ridealong.
