It’s not often that roles in top Hollywood movies are filled just a few days before filming begins.

But with Halle Berry abruptly dropping out of her new movie in order to focus on her increasingly bitter custody battle, that is exactly what happened to New Year’s Eve.

Luckily Katherine Heigl was on hand to step in, filling Berry’s role of a caterer forced to work on December 31st.
Katherine, 32, was on set in New York today, as filming began on the ensemble romantic comedy.

Dressed warmly in a white down jacket and jeans, with a pair of waterproof Wellington boots, she appeared preoccupied as she walked onto set.
Perhaps that had something to do with the script clutched in her hands – by coming onboard at the last moment Katherine has plenty of catching up to do.

Berry quit the movie days before filming began after her former partner of five years filed for full custody of their two-year-old daughter Nahla.

Berry and Gabriel Aubry split last April after almost five years together, and had previously arranged an amicable split custody agreement.

But their split has turned ugly in recent days, with both sides making increasingly bitter accusations against the other.

The actress recently voiced ‘serious’ concerns for her little girl, with her publicist saying she will take legal steps to make sure she is safe.

Aubry strongly responded to her comments, yesterday releasing a statement of his own to Access Hollywood.

‘While Gabriel is disappointed in Halle’
