Al Pacino And Joe Pesci Circling Martin Scorsese And Robert De Niro Mob Movie

post thumbnail
It’s Goodfellas meets Casino meets Heat. So if you’re a fan of those great crime movies, get ready: I’m told Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are now circling The Irishman, the mob drama that Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro have been working on together based on the exploits of mob hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran as chronicled in the book I Heard You Paint Houses. The pic’s being developed at Paramount by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Productions.
Pacino has worked with De Niro in the Michael Mann-directed classic Heat, as well as Righteous Kill. Pesci and De Niro of course teamed with Scorsese on Goodfellas, Casino and Raging Bull. Steve Zaillian wrote the script.
Right now, Scorsese’s off directing the 3D Hugh Cabret for GK Films, and this is one of a couple pictures he’s considering next. Others include Silence, based on the Shusako Endo novel. Scorsese and GK Films nearly had the pic together with Benicio Del Toro, Daniel Day-Lewis and Gabriel Garcia Bernal in the Jay Cocks-scripted saga of Jesuits who face danger as they preach Christianity and try to find their mentor in 17th Century Japan. Scorsese will be in New York Wednesday as HBO premieres the pilot he directed for Boardwalk Empire, which is superb.

Wanda De Jesus Departs 'Law & Order: LA'

EXCLUSIVE UPDATED: Law & Order: Los Angeles co-star Wanda De Jesus is exiting the upcoming NBC series. De Jesus filmed two episodes of the Law & Order spinoff playing Lieutenant Arleen Gonzales, the cool and authoritative captain of the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division. I hear that after two episodes, the producers on the Wolf Films/UMS procedural decided to take the role in a different direction. (The character already had been tweaked once, having originally been written as a male.) De Jesus’ scenes will be reshot, and meetings are underway with potential replacements. Series regularly do recastings after the pilot. Since LOLA went straight to series, the show’s producers have to make adjustments as they go. NBC is said to be interested in possibly casting De Jesus, who is the significant other of Jimmy Smits, star of NBC’s new fall series Outlaw, in another project. LOLA stars Skeet Ulrich, Corey Stoll, Alfred Molina, Terrence Howard, Megan Boone and Regina Hall.

Marianne Faithfull also appears. First-time director Glenio Bonder starts filming October 25 on location in Geneva, Switzerland and then in Italy. James Dearden (Fatal Attraction) and Vincenzo Cerami (Life Is Beautiful) have written the script, based on Albert Cohen’

Warner Bros and De Line Pictures Win Book Auction For 'Ready Player One'

In a high six-figure upfront deal, Warner Bros and De Line Pictures won a heated auction for screen rights to Ready Player One, the debut novel by Fanboys screenwriter Ernie Cline. The movie auction occurred hours a day after the book scored a mid six-figure publishing deal from Random House for North American rights. Cline will write the script.

J-Woww & Snooki Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

More of the Jersey Shore chicks, Snooki and J-Woww.
Now they’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo. I didn’t know they even celebrated Cinco de Mayo in Miami. Isn’t that a Mexican holiday?
Well, hey, any excuse to party (and flash those racks) works for me!

ESPN Film Sets De Niro As Vince Lombardi

In a role that might finally give Robert De Niro a chance to summon his inner Raging Bull, the actor has signed on to play Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi will be written by Eric Roth, who wrote the De Niro-directed The Good Shepherd. De Niro and his Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal will produce alongside ESPN Films, the National Football League and Andell Entertainment. It’s De Niro’s 2nd intriguing deal in the past few days, after Tribeca came on to produce a Midnight Run sequel that will allow De Niro to reprise as Jack Crawford, the [...]

Universal has started the wheels moving on a sequel to the 1988 classic comedy Midnight Run.
The studio has hired Tim Dowling to write the comedy, with Robert De Niro reprising his role as Los Angeles-based bounty hunter Jack Walsh, the former Chicago cop who hunts the turncoat mob accountant played by Charles Grodin in time to collect a $100,000 fee.
The film is being produced by De Niro and his Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal. It first came up when Deadline Hollywood revealed that the sequel was one of the films that WME had booked for De Niro before he returned [...]
